How to uninstall Exchange Server 2007

e2k7There are some prerequisites need to be meet before you can uninstall Exchange Server 2007 from a server.   Completely removing this Exchange 2007 server from a server will includes removing all server roles, all installation files, and the Exchange server object and all its child objects from the Active Directory directory service.

Here are some prerequisites before uninstalling  Exchange Server 2007:

– make sure that all server role that hold by the server has been transfer to other server

make sure to either deleted, disabled, or moved all mailboxes, public folders, and public folder replicas to another Mailbox server.

– make sure there is no connector being use by that server as a bridgehead server.

Here are the steps to uninstall the Exchange Server 2007:

1.  Log on the server using an account that have “Exchange Organization Administrator role”.

2.  Open Control Panel, and then double-click Programs and Features.

3.  In Programs and Features, select Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, and then click Uninstall.  It will launch the Exchange Server Setup wizard.

4.  On the Exchange Maintenance Mode page, click Next.

5.  On the Server Role Selection page, clear all the server role check boxes, clear the Management Tools check box, and then click Next.

6. On the Readiness Checks page, make sure that all items are completed.  If all check completes, click Uninstall.  If there any item fail, it will display in this page.

You need to fulfill the prerequisites, after that, click Retry to run the check again.  After the check completes, click Uninstall.

8.  On the Completion page, click Finish.

Exchange Setup wizard does not remove the Exchange database files, storage group log files, setup log files, and the virtual servers that are created under default websites in IIS.   You need to manually remove those files.
